A long awake shift, usually 10-12 hours depending on location, hours may vary depending on the needs of the clients. Includes preparing the care recipient for bed, oral care, toileting, medication reminders, changing clothes and sheets as needed. Caregivers are responsible for being awake and alert if the care recipient wakes up and requires assistance, and to ensure the client does not develop bed sores or fall at night. A cot must be provided, in the same room or nearby, this will allow brief rest periods during short inactive time.
